The National Memorial Arboretum

Leaf for a lifeOur memorial garden in Staffordshire, is almost complete. The tree, which is central to the design, has now been erected in its permanent position. It is surrounded by a curved trellis, which will make it a secluded, intimate space, with seating facing into the tree feature. Scented climbers of honeysuckle and old fashioned roses will be planted up the trellis to add perfume to the garden.

The tree is currently bare, but will 'grow' leaves. Each leaf will represent a life and will be engraved with the name of a loved one. After engraving the leaves will be curled at the edges then suspended from the branches of the tree.

On the floor under the tree there will also be some engraved leaves, which form a swirling pattern in the pathway. If you would like to sponsor a leaf in memory of your loved one, please contact us for further details.

Moving out of the central space, the garden will be surrounded by a small woodland where there will be seating, to allow visitors private time away from the main garden. Woodland bulbs of bluebells and snowdrops will be planted in drifts, with wood anenomes and fox gloves adding colour and interest. Native trees will be planted in this area, plus a cank thorn (Crataegus laevigata) from the nearby Cannock Chase.

The garden looks out over the river and the orientation of the garden is to face this view - it's a lovely spot.

We are raising funds for the final stage of this project. If you would like to be a part of that fundraising activity or would like to donate specifically towards this project, please contact us.
